Description

Thick, buttery Texas toast piled high with savory sloppy joe meat and melty cheese — a hearty, comforting, satisfying dinner ready fast!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 1/2 cup ketchup

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp mustard

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

  • 8 slices frozen Texas toast (garlic butter flavor)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 tbsp butter (optional, for extra toasting)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven according to Texas toast package instructions.

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until beef is no longer pink. Drain excess grease.

  • Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.

  • Arrange Texas toast slices on a baking sheet. Bake according to package directions until golden, flipping halfway if needed.

  • Top each toast slice with a scoop of sloppy joe mixture and shredded cheddar cheese.

  • Return to the oven for 2–3 minutes until cheese melts.

  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, brush Texas toast with a little melted butter before baking.

  • Use a mix of cheddar and mozzarella for a stretchier cheese topping.

  • Can be made ahead and reheated easily.
