Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf French bread or Italian bread
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 shallots, thinly sliced
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, warm olive oil and add the sliced shallots. Cook for 5–7 minutes until soft and caramelized, stirring frequently.
- Add minced garlic to the pan and cook for 1 minute, just until fragrant. Remove from heat.
- In a bowl, combine softened butter, caramelized shallot-garlic mixture, parsley, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully blended.
- Slice the bread in half lengthwise and spread the butter mixture evenly over each half.
- If using, sprinkle grated Parmesan over the top.
- Place bread halves on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are crisp and the top is golden.
- For extra crispness, broil on high for an additional 1–2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
- Slice and serve warm.
Notes
- Use a serrated knife for cleaner slices.
- Great for pairing with soups, stews, or pasta dishes.
- Leftovers can be wrapped in foil and reheated in the oven.
