Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices thick white bread or brioche, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup whole milk
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, for frying
For the coating:
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt until well combined.
- Add bread cubes to the egg mixture and gently toss to coat. Let sit for 2–3 minutes so the bread absorbs the custard.
- Heat butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
- Add soaked bread cubes in a single layer and cook, turning occasionally, for 5–6 minutes until all sides are golden brown and crisp.
- In a shallow bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon for coating.
- Brush cooked French toast bites with melted butter and toss in cinnamon-sugar mixture until coated.
- Serve warm, with maple syrup or whipped cream for dipping if desired.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for better texture and absorption.
- For a twist, try adding a dash of nutmeg or swapping in flavored syrups.
- These are best served immediately while warm and crisp.
