Description

These healthy cake pops offer a wholesome twist on a party favorite. Free from refined sugar, dairy, and gluten, they’re naturally sweetened with maple syrup and applesauce, and finished with a coating of dark chocolate. Perfect for snacking, celebrations, or a lunchbox treat, these cake pops are a guilt-free indulgence that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake Pops

  • 1 1/2 cups almond flour
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

For the Coating

  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (dairy-free, if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil

Assembly

  • Cake pop sticks

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the almond flour, coconut flour, maple syrup, unsweetened applesauce, almond butter, vanilla extract, and sea salt. Mix thoroughly until a uniform, pliable dough forms.
  2. Shape the Cake Pops: Using a small cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion out the dough and roll into small balls. Arrange the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  3. Insert Sticks: Gently insert a cake pop stick into the center of each dough ball, pushing about halfway through to help hold the shape.
  4. Freeze to Firm: Place the cake pops in the freezer for 15–20 minutes, or until they are firm and easy to handle for dipping.
  5. Melt the Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate chips and coconut oil. Melt in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and glossy. Be careful not to overheat.
  6. Dip the Pops: Dip each chilled cake pop into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat completely. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off.
  7. Set the Pops: Place the chocolate-dipped cake pops upright in a styrofoam block, or lay them flat on fresh parchment paper. Chill in the refrigerator or freezer for 10 minutes, or until the chocolate is fully set.
  8. Store: Store any remaining cake pops in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

  • Ensure your chocolate is fully melted and smooth for easy dipping and even coating.
  • If using dairy-free chocolate, verify all ingredients for allergies or sensitivities.
  • Substitute almond butter with cashew butter or sunflower seed butter for nut-free adaptation.
  • Decorate with naturally colored sprinkles or shredded coconut if desired.
  • Freeze the pops before dipping to help them keep their shape.
