Description

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups finely chopped onions (about 2 medium onions)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Add the milk to the dry ingredients and stir until a thick batter forms.
  3. Fold in the chopped onions until evenly distributed.
  4. Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, flattening them slightly with the back of the spoon.
  6. Fry until golden brown on one side, about 2–3 minutes, then flip and cook the other side until equally golden.
  7. Remove the fritters from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
