- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornmeal
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 cups finely chopped onions (about 2 medium onions)
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Add the milk to the dry ingredients and stir until a thick batter forms.
- Fold in the chopped onions until evenly distributed.
- Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, flattening them slightly with the back of the spoon.
- Fry until golden brown on one side, about 2–3 minutes, then flip and cook the other side until equally golden.
- Remove the fritters from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
