Description

Cherry Supreme Dump Cake is an effortlessly delicious dessert featuring layers of sweet cherry pie filling, buttery cake mix, and toasted walnuts. Simply ‘dump’ the ingredients in a pan and bake — with minimal prep and maximum flavor. Perfect for potlucks, family gatherings, or when you crave homemade dessert in a hurry.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit Layer

  • 2 cans cherry pie filling (about 21 ounces each)

Cake Layer

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (about 15.25 ounces)

Topping

  • 1/2 cup butter, cut into tablespoons
  • Chopped walnuts, to taste (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup recommended)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven – Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s fully heated by the time your cake is ready to bake.
  2. Prepare the Baking Dish – Lightly grease a 13×9-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray to prevent sticking and for easy serving.
  3. Add the Cherry Layer – Evenly spread both cans of cherry pie filling across the bottom of the prepared baking dish, creating a sweet, fruity base.
  4. Add the Cake Mix – Sprinkle the entire box of dry yellow cake mix over the cherry layer, distributing it as evenly as possible. Do not mix it in; just let it sit on top.
  5. Top with Butter and Walnuts – Dot the surface evenly with pieces of butter. Next, scatter the chopped walnuts over the top for an added crunch and nutty flavor.
  6. Bake – Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbly.
  7. Serve – Let the dump cake cool slightly, then serve warm. It’s excellent on its own or topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of cinnamon or almond extract to the cherry pie filling layer.
  • You can substitute pecans for walnuts or omit nuts for a nut-free version.
  • If you prefer a less sweet dessert, use one can of cherry pie filling and supplement with frozen or fresh pitted cherries.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
