Description

Cheesy Cheeseburger French Fry Casserole with crispy fries and beef—an easy, comforting dinner perfect for family meals or game night!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Casserole

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 28-ounce bag shoestring French fries
  • 10.5-ounce can cream of mushroom soup
  • 10.5-ounce can cheddar cheese soup
  • 1/2 yellow onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

For the Burger Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon pickle juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon dehydrated onions
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a large baking dish by lightly greasing it or spraying with nonstick spray.
  2. Cook the Beef Mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain off any excess fat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and continue cooking until the onion is soft and translucent, about 3 minutes. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Remove from heat.
  3. Make the Burger Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, dehydrated onions, and a pinch of black pepper until smooth. Set aside.
  4. Assemble the Casserole: Layer half of the shoestring French fries evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread the beef mixture on top of the fries. Pour both the cream of mushroom soup and cheddar cheese soup evenly over the beef layer. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top, then add the remaining fries in an even layer.
  5. Bake the Casserole: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, until the fries are golden and crispy and the cheese layer is bubbling.
  6. Finish and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Drizzle the prepared burger sauce over the top just before serving. Enjoy while hot!

Notes

  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add sliced pickles, tomatoes, or cooked bacon between layers for extra burger flavor.
  • Use any style of French fries, but shoestring fries crisp up best.
  • Leftovers can be covered and refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
