Description

This Cheeseburger French Fry Bake is a crowd-pleasing comfort food casserole that combines the savory flavors of a classic cheeseburger with crispy French fries. Layered with juicy ground beef, melty cheddar cheese, and your favorite burger toppings, it’s an easy weeknight dinner or playful party dish that’s hearty, cheesy, and full of flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Layer

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

For the Casserole

  • 1 bag frozen French fries (about 20 oz)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

For Topping (Optional)

  • ½ cup chopped pickles
  • Ketchup, for drizzling
  • Mustard, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook the Beef Mixture: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef with diced onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir occasionally until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Prepare the Baking Dish: Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly over the bottom of the dish to form the first layer.
  4. Add the French Fries: Arrange the frozen French fries on top of the beef layer, spreading them out for even coverage.
  5. Bake the Casserole: Transfer the dish to the preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the fries are golden and crispy.
  6. Add the Cheese: Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Return to the oven and bake for another 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Finish and Garnish: Remove from oven and let cool for a couple of minutes. Top with chopped pickles and drizzle with ketchup and mustard as desired. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef for a lighter option.
  • Add cooked bacon bits or sliced jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • This casserole is perfect for customizing with your favorite burger toppings!
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
