  • Author: Chef Clara

Description

A simple and versatile blueberry compote made with fresh or frozen blueberries, lightly sweetened and simmered until thick and flavorful. Perfect for topping pancakes, yogurt, oatmeal, or desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 tbsp water (optional, for thinning if needed)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine blueberries, maple syrup (or sugar), lemon juice, and sea salt.
  2. Stir occasionally and bring to a gentle simmer.
  3. Continue to cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries burst and the mixture thickens slightly.
  4. For a thinner compote, stir in 1 tablespoon of water.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in lemon zest and vanilla extract.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or chilled.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen blueberries based on availability.
  • Adjust sweetness to taste depending on the berries’ natural sweetness.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
