Description
A simple and versatile blueberry compote made with fresh or frozen blueberries, lightly sweetened and simmered until thick and flavorful. Perfect for topping pancakes, yogurt, oatmeal, or desserts.

- 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp lemon zest (optional)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of sea salt
- 1 tbsp water (optional, for thinning if needed)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine blueberries, maple syrup (or sugar), lemon juice, and sea salt.
- Stir occasionally and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Continue to cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries burst and the mixture thickens slightly.
- For a thinner compote, stir in 1 tablespoon of water.
- Remove from heat and stir in lemon zest and vanilla extract.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or chilled.
Notes
- Use fresh or frozen blueberries based on availability.
- Adjust sweetness to taste depending on the berries’ natural sweetness.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
