Description
Bananas Foster Brioche French Toast Recipe is a rich, indulgent, flavorful dish with caramelized bananas and buttery sauce—perfect for brunch!
Ingredients
Scale
Brioche French Toast
- 4 thick slices of brioche or challah bread
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Butter or oil for cooking
Bananas Foster Topping
- 2 ripe bananas, sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon dark rum (optional, for flair)
Optional Toppings
- Powdered sugar
- Chopped pecans
- Maple syrup
Instructions
- Prepare the Bananas Foster Topping: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and cook until it dissolves and becomes bubbly. Add the banana slices and cook for 2–3 minutes until they start to soften and caramelize. If you’d like a classic flair, pour in the dark rum and carefully ignite (using a long match or lighter); let the flames die down naturally, then cook for another 1–2 minutes. Remove the skillet from heat and set aside.
- Make the Custard Mixture: In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Soak the Bread: Heat a clean skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a little butter or oil. Dip each slice of brioche into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated but not too soggy.
- Cook the French Toast: Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot skillet and cook for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning.
- Assemble and Garnish: Transfer the French toast to plates. Spoon the warm bananas Foster topping generously over each slice. Finish with a dusting of powdered sugar, a sprinkle of chopped pecans, and a drizzle of maple syrup if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- The dark rum is traditional but optional; omit for an alcohol-free version.
- Stale or day-old brioche works best—it’s less likely to fall apart when soaked.
- Use challah as an alternative if brioche isn’t available.
- Double the sauce for extra indulgence!
- For nut allergies, simply skip the pecans.
