Ingredients
For the Cake:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

2 large eggs, room temperature

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 ½ cups mashed ripe bananas (about 3–4 bananas)

½ cup buttermilk, room temperature
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar, sifted

1 tsp vanilla extract

Pinch of salt
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans or line with parchment.

Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl.

In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.

Blend in mashed bananas.

Add dry ingredients and buttermilk alternately, starting and ending with dry. Mix gently.

Divide batter evenly into pans and smooth the tops.

Bake 25–30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then fully on wire racks.

For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth.

Gradually beat in powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt until fluffy.

Frost cooled cake layers, stack, and cover top and sides.
