3-Ingredient Apple Dump Cake

  • Author: Chef Clara

Description

This ultra-simple dessert combines apple pie filling, yellow cake mix, and butter to create a warm, gooey, golden-topped cake with irresistible apple pie flavor—all with just 3 ingredients and almost no prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (21-ounce) cans apple pie filling
  • 1 box yellow cake mix (15.25 ounces)
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, sliced into thin pats
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Optional: Chopped pecans or walnuts
  • Optional: Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the apple pie filling evenly into the bottom of the dish.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apples—do not mix.
  4. Place butter slices evenly over the surface of the cake mix, covering as much area as possible.
  5. Optionally, sprinkle cinnamon and chopped nuts on top.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the top is golden and the edges are bubbling.
  7. Cool slightly before serving warm with optional ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is evenly distributed to avoid dry spots.
  • Use a spice cake mix for extra flavor variation.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated.
