This weeknight-friendly recipe delivers irresistibly crispy dumplings and fragrant, sautéed bok choy in just 15 minutes. A one-pan meal, it’s perfectly balanced with golden textures and a subtle kick of sesame and garlic—ideal for busy schedules and sure to satisfy dumpling cravings.
Ingredients
Scale
Dumplings
- 1–2 tablespoons neutral oil (such as canola or vegetable)
- 1 (8-ounce) bag frozen dumplings (about 8 dumplings)
Bok Choy
- 4 mini baby bok choy or 2 regular baby bok choy, halved lengthwise
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
- Pinch of kosher salt
Cooking Liquid
- 1/2 cup water
Optional Garnishes
- Sliced green onions
- Toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan and Dumplings: Heat the neutral oil in a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the frozen dumplings flat side down in a single layer, making sure they do not touch. Cook undisturbed for 2–3 minutes, until the bottoms are golden and crisp.
- Toss the Bok Choy: While the dumplings are browning, toss the halved bok choy with toasted sesame oil and a pinch of kosher salt in a bowl. This will help infuse flavor and keep the greens tender during cooking.
- Combine and Steam: Once the dumplings are crisped on the bottom, nestle the bok choy halves around the dumplings in the pan. Carefully pour in the water, immediately cover with a lid, and reduce the heat to low. Steam for about 8 minutes, until the dumplings are fully cooked and the bok choy is vibrant and tender.
- Evaporate Excess Liquid & Crisp: Remove the lid and allow any excess water to evaporate. If you like extra crispy dumplings, let them cook for another minute uncovered so their bottoms can re-crisp.
- Plate and Serve: Transfer the dumplings and bok choy to a serving plate. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot, ideally with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Use any type of frozen dumplings—vegetable, chicken, pork, or shrimp work well.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary for crispier results.
- Bok choy can be replaced by napa cabbage or even spinach for a twist.
- Serve with soy sauce, chili crisp, or vinegar as a dipping sauce for extra flavor.
- For a more substantial meal, add a fried egg or cooked rice to the plate.
